YB Dato' Sri Tuan Ibrahim bin Tuan Man, Minister of Environment and Water has launched the Dungun Estuary Conservation Project, Kuala Dungun, Terengganu. The implementation of this project involves costs worth RM242.97 million starting on 26 September 2022 and is expected to be fully completed within 54 months which is on 25 March 2027.

The main objective of this project is to overcome the occurrence of deposits in the mouth of Sungai Dungun which is not safe for the navigation of fishing boats and tourist boats to Tenggol Island. The situation worsens during the Northeast Monsoon season when strong winds and strong waves cause boat damage and risk of loss of life. In addition, sedimentation in river mouths also reduces the river's ability to flow water to the sea and result in floods.

Hopefully this project can help the 500 registered boats in the mouth of Sungai Dungun to carry out fishing and tourism activities safely and free from the problem of boat damage and subsequently be able to generate the local economy. The risk of coastal flooding will also be reduced involving nearly 5,000 local residents.
